Sol Sunday, ritual of rest and slowing down
Share
In Norse mythology, Sol (also known as Sól or Sunna) is the radiant Goddess who drives the chariot of the sun across the sky, chased daily by the wolf Sköll. Despite knowing that the end times (Ragnarök) will one day catch up with her, she still rides with unwavering brilliance. Sol reminds us that even in the face of chaos and uncertainty, we have the power to shine, illuminate, and bring warmth to the world around us.
For witches and spiritual practitioners walking the Norse path—or simply drawn to the power of the sun—Sunday is a sacred time to honor her. It’s a day to reflect, restore, and realign our energy with her unwavering light.
But for many of us (myself included), rest doesn't come naturally. After pushing ourselves to meet deadlines or simply survive the week, we’re left foggy, fidgety, and unsure how to slow down. That’s where ritual comes in.
This Sol Sunday Ritual is designed to help you reclaim your energy and treat rest as something sacred—not something to feel guilty about.
Sol Sunday Ritual: Radiance, Renewal, and Realignment
You don’t have to do all of these—pick what calls to you and make it your own.
1. Sun-Kissed Cleanse
Light a candle in a yellow, gold, or white shade. Step into a warm shower or bath and imagine Sol’s golden light pouring over you, washing away stress and mental fog. Use citrus, honey, or sunflower-scented soap if you have it for extra solar energy.
2. Radiant Reflection
Take out your journal and write even just one sentence. Use this prompt:
“What am I proud of from this past week? Where did I shine, even in small ways?”
Let it be soft, not performative. Honor even the tiniest spark.
3. Sacred Stillness
Find a sunny spot, or just sit by a window. Close your eyes, place one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Breathe in slowly for 4 counts, out for 6. Just for a few minutes. Bonus: say Sol’s name aloud three times and invite her peace.
4. Nourishment Offering
Eat something comforting and warm. Before your first bite or sip, offer it to Sol—aloud or in your heart—with gratitude. Let your body be fed with warmth, not guilt.
5. Witchy Wind-Down
As night approaches, pull one tarot or oracle card and ask:
“What light wants to return to me this week?”
Let that insight guide your next steps forward.
Final Thought
Sol rides anyway—even knowing what’s coming. So can you.
You don’t need to be endlessly productive to be powerful. Some days, your light shines brightest through your stillness.
So today, let Sol hold your hand while you do less, rest more, and realign your inner fire.
